Downey to take top job at Everest Re Bermuda

Strategic agreement: Everest Re is work with fellow Bermudian firm HSCM

Chris Downey is to succeed Sanjoy Mukherjee as managing director and chief executive officer of Everest Reinsurance (Bermuda) Ltd, the organisation’s parent company announced.Everest Re Group Ltd said Mr Mukherjee would transition from his Bermuda role on April 1 and return to his full time duties as general counsel and corporate secretary of the parent.Mr Mukherjee, who initially joined Everest in 2000 and became executive vice-president, general counsel and corporate secretary in 2005, assumed the additional roles at the Bermuda operation in April, 2016, the organisation said.Mr Downey, currently chief underwriting officer of the reinsurance division at Everest, will continue in his current role while assuming these additional responsibilities, the company said, adding thatMr Mukherjee and Mr Downey will work closely together over the next few months to ensure a smooth transition. Over the last four years Sanjoy has been instrumental in expanding our Bermuda operations.
