Smith off the pace in Lausanne

Smith finished 30th in Switzerland

Tyler Smith finished 30th in the Lausanne leg of the International Triathlon Union’s Junior European Cup race series on Saturday.

The Bermudian completed the 750-metre swim in 9min 13sec but was unable to get in the lead pack of triathletes on the 20km bike as a group got away off the front.

Smith completed the bike in 29min 36sec as the field split on the tough Lausanne course. The leading group recorded times of about 28min 45sec.

Smith’s time of 17min 13sec for the 5km run gave him a final time of 57mins, 21sec.

The race was won by the Britain’s Ben Dijkstra, with impressive splits of 9:14, 28:49 and 15:20 for an overall time of 54:21.
