Patton on course for podium

Campbell Patton turned up the heat in his quest for a podium finish during yesterday’s penultimate day of the Laser Youth Easter Meeting regatta on Lake Garda, Italy.

The Bermudian made the most of the light air conditions as he produced an impressive 2-12-1 record on the day to comfortably secure his place in the Laser Radial Gold Fleet and remain on course for a podium display.

Patton’s bullet in the final race of the six-race qualifying series was his second of the regatta having also won the third race the previous day.

He leads the under-19 boys’ division going into the final day of the regatta today and is fourth in an overall fleet of 124 competitors. The regatta is the Bermuda qualifier for the Youth Sailing World Championships, to be held in Gdnya, Poland, in July, which Patton is bidding to qualify for the third time.

Anna Brzozowska, of Poland, is the overall leader.

Meanwhile, also competing in northern Italy this week are Christian Ebbin and Magnus Ringsted in the Lake Garda Optimist Meeting regatta.

Ringsted is off to a flying start as he is seventh in an overall fleet of 888 participants, having finished sixth and first in the opening two races of the six-race qualifying series in the Optimist dinghy.

Further down the pecking order in 62nd is Ebbin, who has managed a 30th and fourth so far. There are four qualifying races remaining before the fleet will be divided for the final three races to determine the medal winners.
