Smith receives fine for misconduct

  • Act of frustration: Khano Smith, right, has been Tom Sermanni's assistant coach at Orlando Pride since 2016

Khano Smith has been handed an undisclosed fine in addition to his automatic one-game suspension for his misconduct during his team’s home win over Washington Spirit last weekend.

Smith, the Orlando Pride assistant coach, was ejected by referee Danielle Chesky after she had ruled out a goal for Orlando because of an infringement.

The decision to hand down further punishment for the former Bermuda captain was because of his “inappropriate behaviour and language towards officials”, according to National Women’s Soccer League Disciplinary Committee.

It was reported that Smith, who joined the Pride coaching staff in 2016, kicked a chair in frustration after his side had a goal disallowed because of a foul in the build-up.

Pride, who are second in the table, went on to win the match 2-1 thanks to goals from Sydney Leroux and Marta.

Smith, a former New England Revolution winger, will serve his suspension in Pride’s match away to Houston Dash tonight.
