Coke goes back to Boulevard

Rapid return: Ian Coke will be back in Boulevard colours after just one season at Town

Ian Coke has rejoined Boulevard from Dandy Town and Keishen Bean has left North Village for newly promoted BAA, according to the transfer list released by the Bermuda Football Association yesterday.

Players returning to former clubs seems to be the trend as a total of 81 players obtained releases during the recent transfer window. Strikers Coke and Bean are two of the big names, with Coke one of 14 players severing ties with Dandy Town, although many are up-and-coming or fringe players.

Tomiko Goater and Dominique Williams are joining Robin Hood while Coke heads back to Boulevard after one season with the Hornets, taking Ernest Trott with him. Coke’s return to Boulevard’s colours will be delayed, however, as he is recovering from an end-of-season injury that will likely keep him out of action until the new year.

Also signing with Boulevard are Clay Darrell and Michael Parsons from relegated Young Men’s Social Club. Social Club have lost eight players, including Andrew Samuels, Reid Trott, Giovanni Saltus and Menelik Rudo, who are seeking a new challenge at Hamilton Parish where Corey Hill is taking over as coach. A big signing for Parish, relegated two years ago, is the returning Shayne Hollis, one of five players leaving Village. Also heading back to Parish after two seasons at Robin Hood is midfielder Chris Caisey, who first left Parish in 2010 to join Devonshire Cougars.

“Some people approached me and asked if I would be interested in coming back to help our First Division team get promoted,” Hill said. “Ever since I got my Uefa B licence my main focus has been youth development.

“I’m currently at Valencia with Andrew [Bascome] so that will remain. I wanted to restore some pride back into my community and decided to take up the challenge. Once I heard that certain players were coming back I thought ‘cool, this may be interesting’.

“There is a nice buzz going on in the community. They finished on a low last season so this is an opportunity for me to restore some pride back to the community. I needed to make sure that we have the right personnel and with the quality that Chris and Shayne have, I think something can happen here.”

Hill will have six players joining the team as he gets set to coach at the senior level for the first time. with this being a different type of coaching challenge.

“I’ve always liked a challenge, in 2015 Somerset approached me and said ‘could you come and help out to see if we can win the [Cup Match] cup in St George’s,” he said. “I did that, then a year later Bailey’s Bay approached me and said ‘we need some assistance in winning the county cup back from St David’s, and I did that.

“This year Hamilton Parish asked me to coach and see if we can get promoted, and I’m going to try to help them do that.”

Hill will be assisted at Parish by former team-mate Irving Burgess and John Rebello, who coached the pair at Vasco. This year will mark Vasco’s return to the league. They have picked up seven players through transfers.

PHC, last season’s most successful team, have lost six players in the transfer period, the most notable being Casey Castle who has moved to Hood.

Defender Azende Furbert is leaving Village to return to Town while Demetre Daniels has switched from Village to Cougars.

Jesse Seymour is heading back to Devonshire Rec after stints with Southampton Rangers and Somerset Trojans, while Leo Burgess is also leaving the Trojans, joining Somerset Eagles, who have lost promising young striker D’Andre Wainwright to the Trojans.

X-Roads, who survived their first season in the top flight, have boosted their ranks by signing St George’s attacking pair Jahron Dickinson and Donavan Thompson. Jarazinho Bassett has also left St George’s, to join Southampton Rangers who just missed out on promotion last season.

Philip Parsons and Antonori Butterfield have left X-Roads, Parsons headed to Robin Hood and Butterfield to Rangers. Rangers also secured Travis Wilkinson from promoted Paget, while Tahj Wade has left the Lions to join Somerset Eagles.
