Somerset Eagles missed the chance to draw level with Flanagan’s Onions in second place when the home side scored two minutes into stoppage time to snatch at 1-1 draw at Goose Gosling Field yesterday.

Eagles led late into the match on Anwar Telford’s 25th-minute goal. But just when they were counting the three points, Jah-von Morgan drove in a shot at the far post that went in off the underside of the crossbar to give Onions a point and preserve their unbeaten record.

Jensen Rogers, the new Eagles coach, was disappointed not to secure the win, leaving leaders Southampton Rangers to open a gap at the top of the table.

“I feel we did enough for the three points, but there was a lack of concentration,” Rogers said afterwards.

“We talked about the teams that get promoted are the more consistent teams, and today we were consistent for about 90 minutes before we let the goal in two minutes into injury time. Hopefully this is a learning curve for the guys, and they come out next week and can stay focused.

‘It’s still early days and we have a lot of things to brush up on, but if they remain consistent in training and take that consistency into game day, we’ll be up there in the promotion chase.”

Rogers is enjoying his first stint of coaching and will be available soon as a late transfer from Somerset Trojans. “November 15 is coming fast,” he said. “We’ll talk about it [him suiting up] on November 15.

“The boys seem like they are dedicated. There is a new system that we’re playing from last year and we have new ideas.

“We have to give it time to bed in, but I’m happy with what I’ve seen so far.”

Southampton took over sole possession of first place after a 1-0 win over St George’s at Wellington Oval. Quadir Maynard scored the game’s only goal in the 56th minute from the penalty spot.

Hamilton Parish picked up their first win since the opening day when they beat Ireland Rangers 4-1 at Malabar Field. Tafari Mallory gave the home side the lead in the 23rd minute before Parish levelled in the 31st minute with a goal from Jermath Steede.

Jakai Fox put Parish ahead for the first time in the 57th minute before a Shane Hollis penalty in the 71st minute and a Shakeem Albouy goal in the 83rd completed the reversal.

St David’s and Devonshire Colts drew 1-1, with Kyle Jones scoring for Colts in the 21st minute and Kamali Davis replying for St David’s seven minutes into the second half.

The match at Garrison Field between Wolves and Young Men’s Social Club was not played because the field was not properly marked.
