Somerset Trojans are battling through an injury crisis ahead of the Dudley Eve Trophy final against Robin Hood at Wellington Oval on Sunday.

Midfielders Justin Corday, Stafari Burrows and Alton Trott, winger Jaz Ratteray-Smith and defenders Micah Henschke, Jaden Ratteray-Smith and Trevin Ming have all picked up injuries.

They are now doubtful for the Trojans’ second Dudley Eve Trophy final appearance in five seasons.

Corday injured his back in his side’s 3-0 defeat at home to Paget Lions on October 28 and has not played since.

Henschke suffered an ankle injury and Jaz Ratteray-Smith bruised toes in Somerset’s Dudley Eve Trophy semi-final penalty shoot-out victory over holders PHC Zebras at Goose Gosling Field last week.

All three players missed Somerset’s Premier Division match away to PHC last weekend. The Zebras won that match 3-1 to leave the Trojans rooted to the bottom of the table, with one point from seven games.

Jaden Ratteray-Smith, Trott, Ming and Burrows all picked up knocks during that game.

Ratteray-Smith suffered a calf injury, Ming and Trott thigh and groin injuries, while Burrows experienced a nasty cut above his right eye.

“We are depleted and we have a small squad as it is,” Michael Corday, the Somerset manager, said.

“We won’t know until tomorrow [today] who will actually be available for Sunday.

“We’re struggling a bit now, but we will be all right and if we have to introduce some more under-17 players then so be it. It is what it is.”

On a more positive note, Somerset expect to have striker D’Andre Wainwright back for the Dudley Eve Trophy final. He has missed their previous two outings because of Bermuda international duty at the Concacaf Under-20 Championship in Bradenton, Florida.

Somerset, one of local football’s most decorated clubs, previously appeared in the final during the 2014-15 season when they lost 3-0 to Dandy Town Hornets.

Sunday’s showpiece will be the Trojans’ first appearance in a final since beating PHC 2-1 in the Friendship Trophy final in 2016. It will be the third time that Somerset and Hood have locked horns this season.

Hood won the previous encounters at Goose Gosling Field, where they thrashed Somerset 7-1 during the group stage of the Dudley Eve Trophy and 2-1 in the league.
