Smith’s Lewes held to draw

  • Bermuda striker Jonte Smith

Jonté Smith came on as a 60th-minute substitute as Lewes were held to a 1-1 draw away to fourth-placed Enfield Town in the Bostik League Premier Division.

Omarr Lawson opened the scoring for the visiting side in the twelfth minute but Lewes were denied the three points as Sam Youngs grabbed an equaliser in the 37th minute. The result leaves Lewes in fifth-place in the final play-off position.

Elsewhere, Nahki Wells was not included in the Queens Park Rangers squad which secured their place the fourth round of the FA Cup after a 2-1 victory over Sky Bet Championship rivals Leeds United at Loftus Road yesterday.

QPR broke the deadlock after 23 minutes courtesy of Aramide Oteh’s penalty only for the visiting side to level just two minutes later through defender Aapo Halme. However Steve McClaren’s men secured their passage through into the next round through Jake Bidwell’s 75th-minute header. It will be the first time that QPR take part in the fourth since 2013, having won an FA Cup tie without needing a replay for the first time since 1997.

In Sky Bet League Two, Reggie Lambe missed out through injury as Cambridge United claimed their first victory of the new year with a 2-0 victory over Stevenage on Saturday at the Abbey Stadium. David Amoo and Jevani Brown’s first-half goals proved enough to gain a welcome three points.

Another player not in action over the weekend was Amar Lewis, who was not part of the Brightlingsea Regent squad, which had to settle for a share of the spoils after a 2-2 draw away at Tonbridge Angels in the Bostik League Premier Division.

Harvey Hodd and Billy Hunt put the visiting side 2-0 up after 48 minutes only for the home side to hit back with goals from Tom Parkinson and Alex Read. The result leaves Brightlingea Regent in sixteenth position, five points clear of the relegation zone.
