Somerset Eagles 1 Robin Hood 4

Robin Hood scored three late goals to send Somerset Eagles packing in the first round of the FA Cup at White Hill Field on Saturday.

Hood, the defending champions, took the lead in the 26th minute through a header from forward Antwan Russell after he was picked out by defender Joseph Pereira.

Leo Burgess, the Eagles forward, pulled a goal back for the home side in the 62nd minute, slotting home after being released by experienced midfielder Marlon Rojas.

It took until the 81st minute for Hood to restore their lead against a battling Eagles side, with Shakir Smith firing a low, hard shot into the far corner.

Smith’s strike understandably left Eagles visibly deflated, with Hood added two further goals, both strikes from outside the box, from forwards Lejuan Simmons and Tomiko Goater.

John Barry Nusum, the Hood coach, said: “I felt like 1-1 was a fair reflection of the game [until Hood’s second goal],” Nusum said.

“I didn’t think we played particularly well; I thought Eagles outmuscled us. When we got the second it gave us a little more confidence. That goal deflated them a little bit because they did work hard.

“The second goal allowed us to play with a more freedom and less tension. The last two goals were very simple.”
