X-Roads overcome spirited Wolves

Tymon Daniels scored for X-Roads

Wolves 0 X-Roads 3

X-Roads enjoyed a comfortable win over a spirited Wolves at Garrison Field yesterday.

Kyle Hamilton, Tymon Daniels and Andre Burgess found the target to send X-Roads into the next round of the competition.

The first half was watched by a surprise guest in Governor John Rankin, who made an appearance after being invited by X-Roads president Salaam Talbot.

“It has been a good competitive match with both teams trying to move the ball around,” Governor Rankin said. “It was a good opening goal by X-Roads down the right flank. Also, it’s nice to see both teams playing in good spirit.”

Wolves defender Hopde Burrows and Jared Peniston had the daunting task of keeping leading scorer Donovan Thompson at bay and did so as he failed to get on the score sheet.

X-Roads took the lead in the 40th minute when Jorge Sanchez played a perfect through ball for Hamilton to run onto and stroke the ball home. Wolves held their own as they had some joy down their left flank with Kyle Brangman and Tyre Robinson causing Burgess major problems.

X-Roads’ fitness and experience started to show in the second half as they poked holes in the Wolves defence. Burgess crossed a diagonal ball to the back post which was knocked into the centre to find Daniels unmarked.

He had the simple task of slotting the ball under the diving Wolves goalkeeper.

Wolves substitute Lamont Brangman should have pulled a goal back for Wolves when Peniston put him through one-on-one with X-Roads goalkeeper Dashun Cooper.

However, the ball got stuck between his feet allowing Cooper to smother the ball. Burgess closed the scoring with the goal of the game when he collected a poor clearance and hit a fierce drive from distance into the net.
