Kyle Lightbourne, the Bermuda coach, believes there are plenty of things to work on after watching his side defeat Guyana at the National Stadium last night.

Donte Brangman netted the winner shortly before the interval to extend his side’s winning streak to five games and more importantly boost confidence before the Concacaf Gold Cup opener against Haiti in San José, Costa Rica.

“I thought it was a great exercise,” Lightbourne said. “It was a very good competitive game, especially second half, that was exactly what we needed.

“It’s a win, but we are not going to get carried away with it because there were a lot of things we can work on.

“We tried to play two different ways, which we did, and I thought the first half we were good. Our boys in midfield really bossed the game and controlled it.

“We had a lot of touches of the ball and a lot of the things we had been working on came off in the game.

“We have been looking to be able to control a game for long periods, and in the first half, I thought we controlled it.

“In the second half, I thought we lost a little bit of control of the game.

“They switched it up a little bit and with us making the changes sometimes it’s difficult for guys to get into the game.

“Those were the guys who haven’t been here for the whole training camp, so it’s to be expected.

“Now we sit down and go over it and everybody understands what we are looking for.”

Bermuda’s win came at a cost as goalscorer Brangman limped off injured in the second half.

“I don’t know the exact reason as I didn’t speak to Craig [team physiotherapist Craig Brown],” Lightbourne added. “I hope he hasn’t tweaked his hamstring.

“I know it would not have been cramp, so it had to be a little, soft muscle injury.”

Despite suffering defeat, Michael Johnson, the Guyana coach, was encouraged by his team’s display.

“I thought it was a really good game,” the former Birmingham and Derby County defender said. “It’s not a bad result and so I’m very, very pleased with tonight’s performance.

“It was the proverbial game of two halves where I thought Bermuda played really well first half and second half we finished very strongly and probably deserved to get at least a goal.

“What I saw was a real spirited second-half performance, which gives me really great hope going into our next phase.”
