Dandy Town 3 Boulevard 1Boulevard finally scored their first goal of the season, however, it was not enough to prevent them losing their eighth straight league match yesterday at St John’s Field.After Dandy Town had a dream start with two goals inside the first seven minutes against the bottom team, Boulevard showed their fighting attitude when they earned a penalty late in the second half to make it 2-1 when captain Ian Coke converted to give the visitors some hope of a first win. However, they were undone by Jahkari Furbert’s strike a minute from the end as Town secured their fifth straight win.“We had a great start to the match, then we slowed the play down a little bit, didn’t keep up the intensity which allowed them to push on,” said Cal Blankendal, the Town assistant coach. “Hats off to Boulevard at the foot of the table, if you came out to watch them today you wouldn’t know that with their attitude and professionalism. Hats off to them. “We just need to be a little more intelligent on how to close out games. The team is playing exceptionally well and we just have to put the ball into the back of the net to relax ourselves and get into the style of play that we want to play. “We took our foot off the pedal a little bit, but at the end of the day the goal is to come off the field with three points.” The only setback for third-place Town was the red card shown to defender Jomei Bean-Lindo after the final whistle for foul and abusive language after being booked just a minute earlier. It is the second red card of the season for the former Devonshire Colts player. “We have a big squad, he received a card so someone will take his place and he’ll learn from that,” Blankendal said. Kwame Steede made Boulevard pay for some slack marking when he converted the opening goal following a move down the right side by Omar Wilson. Captain Angelo Simmons made a short pass to Steede who tucked his shot from the left side of the box into the bottom corner. Boulevard were stunned further by a brilliant volley from 25 yards that found the ‘pigeon hole’ as goalkeeper Azir Harvey was left flatfooted. Defender Jahtino Richardson-Martin went close to making it 3-0 on the half hour mark when he lifted a header over the bar.Boulevard had their best spell in the closing minutes of the half when they forced four corners after putting the three-man Town defence under pressure. A brialliant effort from fullback Antoine Famous following a short corner by Dunn-ya Taylor brought off an equally good save from goalkeeper Treadwell Gibbons. Gibbons pulled off another save early in the second half as Boulevard carried on where they left off, as Takeyhi Walker’s freekick was curled around the Dandy Town wall before Gibbons made the block at the near post. At the other end, Harvey made a reflex wsave to a Furbert header following a corner on the left. Dashun Butterfield, who had come on minutes earlier as Town’s first substitute, replacing Wilson, then had an effort blocked on the line after following up on a shot from Simmons that was deflected. Boulevard were forced to replace midfielder Niko Smith with a shoulder injury midway through the half. They did finally get that first goal of the season after nine league and cup games when Ernest Trott was blown down by referee Tashun Simons for a handball inside the box. Coke sent Gibbons the wrong way, his shot going in off the underside of the crossbar. Just as Boulevard were launching a late rally, Town put the match out of their reach with a third goal from Furbert who ran onto a ball into the box and pulled his left footed shot across goal and into the far bottom corner. Simmons, who is recovering from a thigh injury he picked up last weekend, was substituted as a precaution right after Boulevard pulled their goal back.
