Frazzoni and college on a roll
Eva Frazzoni and her College of Saint Rose team-mates produced back-to-back home wins over Daeman College and Stonehill at the weekend to advance in the NCAA Division II Women’s Soccer East Region final.
The top seed thrashed eighth seed Daeman 4-0 in their tournament opener at the Plumeri Sports Complex in Albany, New York, on Friday before edging fourth seed and Northeast-10 Conference rivals Stonehill 1-0 at the same venue on Sunday.
“My team executed our game plan tremendously which allowed us to come out top for both games,” said Frazzoni, the former Bermuda Under-20 women’s captain.
“Stonehill was by far the tougher opponent and we knew this would be a key win for us. The weather was pouring rain and wind on top of being cold. This made the game that much more of a battle and the win that more rewarding.”
Saint Rose will host third seed Molloy in the NCAA Division II Women’s Soccer East Region final on December 6.
Frazzoni and her team-mates recorded a 2-1 win home over Molley earlier this season.
“I am so proud of my team,” Frazzoni added. “We are competing at our best hosting the NCAA. We are taking one game at a time like always and are happy we get a good amount of time until the round of sixteen [East Region final], where we will play Molloy.”
Saint Rose finished the regular season as the top seeds in the Northeast-10 Conference with an overall 14-2-1 record.
They then clinched a record-tying eighth Northeast-10 Conference Championship title and a spot at the upcoming NCAA Tournament after coming from behind to secure a 3-2 home win over seventh seed Southern Connecticut State in the conference final.
“I’m just so happy for these young ladies who have worked so hard,” Laurie Darling Gutheil, the Saint Rose head coach, said. “They have overcome a lot and each one has contributed in her own unique way.
“We’re so happy to be able to continue to play in Albany in front of our fans and our entire community.”
