Zeiko Lewis is determined to build on the momentum of his breakout season at Charleston Battery and have an even greater impact this season. In what proved a positive campaign for Battery in which they finished ninth in the USL Championship Eastern Conference, Lewis proved one of their standout performers, leading the club’s scoring charts with eight, while also providing the joint most assists with five. His performances helped lead Battery to the Eastern Conference play-in games, where they defeated Ottaway Fury 5-4 on penalties after a 1-1 draw, before going down to a 3-1 defeat against second-placed Nashville SC, in which Lewis scored his side’s consolation from the spot.“I thought that the team overall had a good season last year,” Lewis said speaking to the beautiful game network website. “We had a lot of changes and things that were going on at the time, so I thought we managed well with what we had.“For me moving forward, I just want to do whatever I can to help the team win. “Yeah, I’m here to score goals and create goals, but at the end of the day if I need to get back and defend, I’m going to do that, too.“Moving forward, I want to set my goals high. “In terms of goals and assists, I want to improve my numbers significantly.”Following the uncertainty off the field, Battery have gone through a rebrand before the new season, which will involve the club travelling to Atlanta United II in their opener on March 8 before hosting the Philadelphia Union II in the first match at their new ground at Patriots Point on March 28.Despite the disruptions around the club, which has seen a host of new additions arrive at the club, Lewis had no doubts about returning.“It was easy for me to come back,” Lewis added. “I enjoyed myself last year, there’s a great group of guys, and the coaches believe in me and trust that I’ll get the job done. “I just want to do my best to show them what I can do and perform to the best of ability.“The club going through the rebrand has been exciting so far. In terms of how the club is moving forward, it feels like we’re moving in the right direction.”
