John Barry Nusum is relishing the return of Danté Leverock to Robin Hood, after confirming the capture of the Bermuda captain.Having severed ties with Polish second-tier club Radomiak Radom in February, citing racial discrimination during a turbulently brief spell in Central Europe, the 28-year-old looks set for a return to action in more familiar surroundings, rejoining a club he left back in 2018. While the towering defender has spent the summer on island training with Hood, coach Nusum revealed his frustration at being unable to include Leverock in the first team as yet with the club still awaiting international clearance to rubber-stamp the transfer.“As far as I’m concerned he’s a Hood player for this season and that’s certainly a massive boost for the club,” said Nusum speaking after his side’s hard-fought win over Somerset Trojans in the Dudley Eve Trophy on Saturday in which Tomiko Goater’s solitary strike sealed victory.“We are waiting on Danté’s release to come through so we can register him. We put all the relevant forms in back in July but for some reason along the way it hasn’t come through as it should have. It’s a case of having to wait on the international clearance to come through but he’s been training with us all summer and the registration forms are in so there’s nothing anyone can do but wait.”The return of Leverock is a major coup for the club as the gain not only a player familiar with Hood and the Premier Division, but one who brings a wealth of overseas experience with him having featured for the likes of Estonian outfit Narva Trans, SSE Airtricity League side Sligo Rovers in Ireland and English semi-professional side Ilkeston.The move could also see Bermuda’s captain link up with international team-mate Jaylon Bather at the heart of Hood’s defence, a cause of particular excitement for Nusum.“I’m definitely looking forward to having him back with us, he played for club a few years back and him being a part of the squad again is a big positive for us,” Nusum added.“I’m really excited about having Danté within the squad and particularly with the prospect of paring him and Jaylon Bather together at the back.“They’ve played together at international level and so that chemistry can be built on all season not only at club level, but with Bermuda as well, it’s a big positive for us and the country.“Not only is he a really good player but he’s a brilliant character to have at the club as well, we’re delighted to have him.”His unsavoury experience in Poland had left Leverock contemplating quitting the game, while the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic also left him reflecting on the uncertainty of being out of contract with the player previously stating: “This pandemic has put a lot of things into perspective for me and, yes, ideally I would love to continue playing into my thirties. However, this is not certain.”He continued: “I want to come back to Bermuda and make a huge difference in the community, helping athletes to reach the next level. “My aim right now is to find a team at the highest level possible and play as many games as I can while helping Bermuda reach the Concacaf Gold Cup again.”
