Piper shines in US Open events

Myron Piper and doubles partner Lily Yip who reached the doubles final at the US open table tennis tournament, losing 3-1

Myron Piper played in his first US Open table tennis tournament just before Christmas, reaching the over-50s mixed doubles final and the men’s 4200 doubles quarter-finals.

Piper, a former Bermuda footballer, also reached the men’s over 60s round of 16 during the four-day tournament in Las Vegas.

The highlight of Piper’s trip was reaching the mixed doubles final with partner Lily Yip, a two-time American Olympian. The US Open is the highest level table tennis tournament in the United States and Canada.

“We lost 3-1 to seven-time men’s champion Danny Seemiller and his partner in the final,” Piper said. “I’m hoping to play in the Masters World Championships in June in Las Vegas.

“This event was in preparation for the World Championships. I hope to play several other tournaments leading up to the World Championships.”
