Armstrong bags hat-trick for Social Club

Social Club 5 Ireland Rangers 3

Young Men’s Social Club prevailed over Ireland Rangers in extra time courtesy of a hat-trick by Nique Armstrong at Police Field yesterday.

Social Club missed a plethora of first-half chances and were disappointed to enter the interval with the score level at 1-1.

The home side took the lead through Armstrong before Rangers equalised courtesy of a penalty from Henry Santucci after Johnny Bean was fouled the box. Rangers scored again in the 65th minute when Santucci to tapped in at the back post.

Social Club came roaring back in the 88th minute when Armstrong outpaced the Rangers backline before firing past goalkeeper TJ Brangman to send the game in extra time.

Armstrong notched his hat-trick in the 95th minute and increased their lead when substitute Anthony Purnell headed home a cross from Jahmair Lewis-Trott.

Purnells’s header seemed to put the game out of reach of the Rangers, but Bean had other ideas as outmuscled a defender for the ball before lobbing goalkeeper Delroy Ricketts in the 107th minute to reduce the deficit. However, Social Club restored their two-goal lead in the 119th minute when 6ft 6in midfielder, Jahmair Lewis-Trott, snaked his way from midfield into the box to score.
