Platano Power off the mark

Platano Power picked up their first win of the season by edging Chubb Kings 15-13 in an A Division contest.

Jefferey Tapia was the top bat for Platano in going 4-4 with a HR and five RBI.

Team-mates Leonardo Silveira and Albert Acevedo were both 3-3 and Kelvin Vargas contributed by batting 3-4 with two doubles and two RBI.

John Rolph was 4-4 with a home run in the losing effort by Chubb while team-mate Les Dziwenka was 3-3 from the leadoff spot.

Sea Venture picked up a rare slow-pitch shutout as they blanked Docksiders 15-0. Sea Venture remain on top of the division with a 3-0 record.

Blue Wahoos also have an unblemished 2-0 record after they slipped past X-Bats 10-6.

Paraquet Flyers moved into second place with a 21 to 13 triumph over Hakuna Mata Charters.

FIU Scared Hitless shut out previously unbeaten Beach Bums 17-0 in a B Division game. It was the first win of the year for FIU.

Team Smokey burnt Raggamuffins 16-10 in the other B Division match. The victory moved Smokey into a first-place tie with Beach Bums.

One of the most exciting games of the week occurred in the C Division as Super Express slipped past Shooters by one run in a 27-26 triumph.

The game was tied going into the last inning when Express scored seven times in the top half of the inning. Shooters made a valiant effort but fell a run shy as they had a runner cut down at the plate.

Sean Burgess led Express in going 4-5 while Anthony Williams was 5-6.

Aaron Madeiros (6-6) and Carlos Lima (5-5) both handled the bat perfectly for Shooters. Madeiros smashed three home runs as well. Stephen Pacheco (5-6) was nearly as good from the leadoff spot.

Buffaloes remain unbeaten in the C Division after a convincing 22-6 win against Five Os.

In the Corporate Division, PWC beat KPMG 16-12. Ryan Marshall (4-4) and Jeoff Chisnall (3-3) were both perfect at the plate for KPMG. Marshall and Ryan O’Donnell scored home runs for the winners.

Brett Farlow hit for the cycle (single, double, triple and home run) for KPMG and plated six runs. Team-mate Gareth Patan was 3-4.

In the Women’s Division, Angels had little difficulty in defeating the PHC Zebras in a 24-6 victory. Terry Paynter and Chelsea Ray led the way for Angels, each going 4-5. Cassandra Trott, Simone Bang and Debbie DeShields all had three hits for the winners.

Tawanna Fox (3-4) and Tahirah Hill (2-3) were the top batters for PHC.

In the other women’s game undefeated HardKnockz beat Outback Skylights 17 to 2.

All games are played at the Michael Preece Softball Diamond at Bernard Park from Monday to Thursday, starting at 6pm.
