Fight City Bermuda represented the Bermuda Amateur Muay Thai Association in the Fourth Annual Revgear Tournament of Champions in Des Moines, Iowa, last weekend.Jay Astwood led Team Fight City Bermuda to their first win of the day defeating Dalton Brandell, of Savage Muay Thai, by unanimous decision. Astwood performed well, dropping Brandell with a knee to the body in the first round and a vicious left elbow in the second round. The Bermudian cruised to victory in the third round and advanced to the Class B Middleweight finals against a significantly more experienced Marc Mrozinski, of Fight Prime. In the finals, Astwood performed well, but was eventually outscored on points in a very competitive match where he was unlucky to close out his day without a title belt.Nathan Amaral, competing in his first Muay Thai event, continued his undefeated career inside the ring with a dominant victory over Saw Dah, of the famed Rofusport gym. Amaral gave his opponent multiple standing eight counts with hard knees to the body with the Rofusport fighter not answering his third eight count in the closing seconds of the second round. Amaral advanced to the finals against a very game Joshua Brooks, of Dragon Leg Gym. The match was a very close affair with the judges scoring the match tied heading into the third and final round. The Fight City Bermuda man dug deep landing a flurry of low kicks to his opponent’s leg and constantly backing him into the corners of the ring.Amaral landed flurries of shots in the final minute to eventually be awarded the victory and crowned as the Revgear Lightweight C Class champion.The two other Fight City Bermuda fighters were Keron Lee and Nikki Stoudt, both of whom received silver medals after advancing to the finals and competing against significantly more experienced fighters. Team Fight City Bermuda ended the tournament with three silver medals and one Revgear champion. The gym was awarded the tournament’s Sportsmanship award by Paul Reavlin, owner of Revgear Sports Ltd. This trophy is voted on by the staff and officials of the tournament with the decision based on how the team, as a whole, treats officials, staff, medics, opponents, and a team that embodies the true spirit of Muay Thai.Chuck Morgan, the Fight City Bermuda coach, was also able to corner top American fighter Frank Wells, of The Institute Muay Thai in New Jersey, who lost a decision in the semi-finals to the eventual Super Welterweight A Class Champion Luke Lessi, of Team Singto Muay Thai.Fight City Muay Thai & Fitness is Bermuda’s Premier Muay Thai Academy that specialises in teaching beginners ring-tested Muay Thai.
