David Maycock climbed 20 places from 31st to eleventh with six games to go in the qualifying rounds of the Bowling World Cup in Palembang, Indonesia, today.Maycock had a best game of 268 for a total of 3,699 after 18 games while team-mate Patrice Tucker moved up three places from 38th to 35th with a score of 3,173 and a best game of 224. Both are aiming to finish in the top 24 in order to advance to the next round of competition. Maycock is 122 pins ahead of the 24th place while Tucker is 198 pins out of the final qualifying place going into tomorrow’s final six games. Francois Louw continues to dominate the men’s competition, now leading by 310 pins. In second place is Oliver Morig. of Germany. while Niko Oksanen. of Finland. is still in third place overall.Other 1,300-plus series came from Maycock (1,344), Jaroslav Lorenc, of the Czech Republic, (1,314), Glenn Morten Pedersen, of Norway, (1,304) and defending champion Sam Cooley of Australia (1,309), which brought him up into the top eight.Several players will battle to get into the top 24 tomorrow.The women found the condition tougher today, with the high set being a 1,245 by Maria Koshel, of Russia, as a further eight players shot over 1,200. Among them was Natasha Roslan, the leader from day one, who hit 1225, enough to take her back to the top of the leaderboard on 3768. Kelly Kulick, of the USA, has dropped down to second on 3725 with Koshel moving up to third on 3,710.
