Bermuda’s David Maycock fell just short of a place in the top eight round robin stage at the QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup in Palembang, Indonesia yesterday.Jasem Al-Saqer of Kuwait was only 15 pins ahead of Maycock for the final spot during eight more games of action to cut the field down from the 24 qualifiers to eight for the round robin. Al-Saqer came out firing and shot a 242 game compared to Maycock’s 190 which left him just short, missing out by 67 pins in the battle for the last spot. The lead in the men’s section did not change as Francois Louw of South Africa was so far ahead he could not realistically be caught. However, Natasha Roslan of Malaysia and Kelly Kulick of the USA battled for the women’s top spot, with Roslan taking it by a mere six pins. Bermuda’s Patrick Tucker had already failed to reach the qualifying round of 24 after finishing 37th out of 60 bowlers. Maycock finished ninth best out of 73 competitors. The scores carry through to today when there are an extra 30 bonus pins for winning in the head-to-head round robin, 15 for a draw. As a result there is still very much everything to play for. After the eight games [seven in a round robin and then a position round] the cut will be made for the top four, when the scores revert to zero.
