Kim McCallan has switched her allegiances to a newly formed racing syndicate that will be among those competing at this weekend’s Offshore Powerboat Association World Championships in Englewood, Florida.The former Bermuda Power Boat Association commodore has joined nmbrvresort.com racing from fellow American syndicate Nobody’s Business Offshore Racing.Founded in September, the fledgeling team is based in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and also includes owner/driver Kirk Hanna, throttle man Mark Rinda and Mandy Hanna. The team will compete in the American Power Boat Association, Power Boat Offshore (P1) and OPA series in the Prostock V class in a 30-foot Phantom powered by Mercury Racing 525.Owner Kirk Hanna and Rinda have also cut ties with Nobody’s Business Offshore Racing to form the new team.“The split with Nobody’s Business was due to personal and business commitments and all agreed that due to this it was for the better,” McCallan said.“So far all is going good. Mark has been working hard to get the boat in order with some re-rigging and Kirk has been out testing to get the feel of the boat and work out kinks.“We are confident about racing in the upcoming season. “We are determined and inspired with the amount of support from both the racing community and the locals in both the US and Bermuda.”The OPA World Championships will be held today and tomorrow and will feature more than 70 boats running at speeds exceeding 150 miles per hour that will compete in a eight-race series.McCallan arrived in Florida earlier this week to help with her new team with their final preparations.“I’m not competing in this one as I haven’t tested in the boat,” she said. “But I will be doing a race or two next season and will handle the PR side of things.“It is exciting to be part of a new team and to go back with an open mind and a new approach for us in racing for the 2020 season with OPA and P1 offshore racing in the US.”McCallan took up an offer in May to serve as an alternate driver and full-time crew with former team Nobody’s Business Offshore RacingShe made her racing debut two months later at the St Clair River Classic in Michigan, where she finished sixth among the eight entries in the ProStock V class.The mother of one is the first Bermudian woman to compete at this level.
