Harbour Swim Club have invited Nick Baker, a former Olympic coach, and his world-renowned Nike Peak Performance Camp to Bermuda next week.

Baker, who coached Canada’s Lisa Flood at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, and his team will be coaching Harbour’s youngsters at the Aquatics Centre, National Sports Centre, from October 24 to 28.

They will also be providing the Harbour coaches with professional training, as well as offering a workshop for parents of swimmers.

Stephen Castree, the Harbour president, said: “We’re delighted to be able to welcome the coaching expertise of Peak Performance to Bermuda.

“This partnership puts Harbour at the forefront of coach and swimmer development on the island.

“We have built from the junior base up. The team of 170 swimmers is currently full but is set to further grow in the 2018-19 season as the doubling of the junior programme three years ago starts to bear fruit at a senior level.”

Baker, the founder and head coach the Peak Performance Camp, has coached more than 1,500 swimmers from 43 countries, including world record holders, Olympic medal-winners and finalists and NCAA champions.

Shona Palmer, the Harbour head coach, said: “The club is committed to providing specific training to meet specific individual needs, with a blend of pool work, land training, camps, overseas trips and also ensuring that the sport, while hard work, remains fun.

“It’s important that we provide our swimmers with exposure to what is possible beyond our shores, the benefits of participating competitively in international competition and a line of sight to reach whatever goals each swimmer sets.”

Harbour, the largest swim club in Bermuda with more than 170 swimmers, are based at Saltus Grammar School and the Aquatics Centre.

They delivered 16 different medal-winners at the National Open Water Championships at Turtle Bay, Southampton, last month, while club member Emma Harvey, representing Scotland, won two medals at the Youth Commonwealth Games in Nassau, Bahamas, in July.

Harbour held the first of their three-meet intraclub competitions at the Aquatics Centre last weekend. The competition featured 40 members in four teams named after an international swimmer. The first meet win went to Team Le Clos.
