Elan Daley continued to turn heads during yesterday’s penultimate day of the Carifta Swimming Championships in Kingston, Jamaica, where she added three more gold medals to the five she won at the weekend.

And, as if that was not enough, Daley set a fifth Carifta record at this year’s championships, to further underline her enormous potential that has left onlookers at the National Aquatic Centre simply awestruck.

Competing in the girls 11-12 age group, she won gold in the 200 individual medley, 50 breaststroke and 100 freestyle and set a new meet record en route to qualifying for the final of the latter event.

“When you see what she has been doing on an ongoing basis and now putting it all together at this level of competition is amazing to watch,” Ben Smith, the national swimming coach, said.

“The coaches and swimmers from other teams and everybody are just watching this masterpiece that she’s painting.”

Also earning individual medals were Sam Williamson, Logan Watson-Brown, Madelyn Moore and Kai Legband.

Williamson won silver in the boys 13-14 breaststroke, Watson-Brown silver in the 13-14 girls 100 free with Moore and Legband claiming the silver and bronze in the girls 15-17 100 free.

It was Logan-Brown’s third medal having captured silver and bronze at the weekend and second for Moore who is in her final year of eligibility at the championships.

“Logan Watson-Brown is swimming amazing and to have Madelyn getting medals in her last Carifta, Kai showing up in his first Carifta and getting a silver medal, Sam coming out in the 50 breast and getting a silver medal ... it just goes on and on,” Smith added.

Bermuda also thrived in the relay with the team of Daley, Watson-Brown, Taylor White and Gabriela Pitman winning silver in the girls 13-14 4x200 relay.

“To watch what they are all doing and then seeing them come together with the relays and getting relay medals is always great because now you have to rely on each other to get there,” Smith said.

Bermuda’s swimmers have racked up 21 medals so far going into today’s final day of the regional swim meet.

“All of these kids have worked extremely hard and now they are reaping the rewards,” Smith said. “Daley is swimming fast and it’s unbelievable to watch. But the whole team is just getting along so well.

“They are all working hard and everybody is performing, so I could not ask for anything else. I am a happy coach going into the final day.”
