Whitter wins pair of titles

Makai Whitter claimed the boys’ under-12 and 14 titles at the Bermuda Tennis Open Next Gen tournament at the Fairmont Southampton at the weekend.

Whitter beat Antonio Warner 4-0, 4-1 in the under-12 final to claim the age group’s No 1 ranking at the season-ending tournament.

In the under-14 competition, Whitter — coached by tournament director and cousin Jovan Jordan-Whitter — defeated Matthew Way 4-1, 4-2. AJ Phillips took the boys’ under-10 title after beating Kyan Hands 4-0, 4-0.

In the girls’ age groups, Grace McFadden defeated Asia Leigh 1-4, 4-1 (10-7) in the under-12, with Megan Johnston beating Britney Outerbridge 4-2, 4-0 in the under-14.

A total of 58 players entered the inaugural competition, which was sanctioned by the Bermuda Lawn Tennis Association.
