No wins for island players

Bermuda's two senior players in the Fed Cup, Ashley Brooks, left and Kirsten Saltus, take a break during training before their trip to Ecuador

Bermuda suffered three defeats out of three without winning a set at the Fed Cup Group II Americas Zone B in Guayaquil last week.

The team of Ashley Brooks, Jahzuena Bradshaw-Douglas, Kirsten Saltus and Shelby Madeiros lost 3-0 in each contest to Bolivia, Trinidad and Tobago and the Bahamas.

Madeiros lost 6-0, 6-4 to Daniela La Fuente Strassburger in the first rubber against Bolivia. Brooks then went down 6-3, 6-1 to Noelia Zeballos before Bradshaw-Douglas and Saltus were defeated 6-0, 6-0 by La Fuente Strassburger and Zeballos in the doubles. Breana Stampfli, of Trinidad, then beat Madeiros without losing a game. Brooks lost 6-1, 6-3 to Yolande Leacock and Brooks and Saltus were defeated 6-0, 6-3 by Anneliese Rose and Stampfli.

In the final match against Bahamas, Madeiros lost 6-0, 6-1 to Danielle Thompson. Brooks failed to win a game against Kerrie Cartwright and Bradshaw-Douglas and Saltus were defeated 6-1, 6-1 by Sierra Donaldson and Simone Pratt.

Bahamas won the zone, but were defeated 2-0 by Ecuador, who won promotion to Americas Zone Group I at the Centro National de Tenis de la FET.
