Standout performances in Guyana

The Bermuda squash team returned from the Caribbean Squash Championships in Guyana, having achieved a host of strong finishes.

The standout performances came from Colin Alexander winning the men’s over-60 category, Denise Kyme taking second place in the women’s over 50 category and Suzanne Rose finishing third in the women’s over 40s. There was also a strong finish from the veterans’ team who secured a third-place finish, overcoming the likes of British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Jamaica and Trinidad & Tobago, finishing behind Guyana and overall winners Barbados,

In the ladies singles, Rachel Barnes and Susie Howells finished in ninth to sixteenth place giving Bermuda a sixth-place finish overall. Having overcome Madison Fernandes, of Guyana 11-0, 11-2, 11-1, in the round of 32, Barnes fell at the next hurdle, losing 11-4, 11-4, 11-4 to Meagan Best, of Barbados.

Howells overcame Zoe Sorrentino in the round of 32 but like Barnes, suffered defeat in the next round, going down to eventual overall winner, Nicolette Fernandes, of Guyana.
