Legislation designed to regulate Airbnb-style vacation rental property is to be introduced.
Jamahl Simmons, Minister of Economic Development and Tourism, said: “The regulatory framework is under review and being considered in consultation with stakeholders as we work on the 2018 national tourism plan.”
He made the announcement during debate on the Budget for his ministry on Monday.
Mr Simmons said the legislation would be “light touch” and would allow visitors to choose properties with confidence.
Leah Scott, deputy Opposition leader and shadow tourism minister, asked if a tax or licence fee would be involved.
She added: “Would there be any additional requirements that would have to be met by those who have vacation rentals?”
Mr Simmons did not provide additional information on the legislation.
