Pacers in hunt for medals

The Bermuda Pacers Track Team will go in search of more medals at the Russell E. Blunt East Coact Invitational Track Meet in Durham, North Carolina, which starts today.

The Pacers had a successful trip to the Flying Angels International Classic in Toronto last weekend, winning 28 medals.

The Russell E. Blunt East Coact Invitational attracts more than 1,000 athletes between the ages of 8 and 18. The competition runs until Sunday at the Durham Memorial Stadium.

The Bermuda team will be led by Aaron Jacobs and Telilah Wears who will compete in the 17-18 boys and girls division.

Other senior athletes on the team are Clevonte Lodge, Mikaela Outerbridge, Malik Joell, Ryan Outerbridge, Sajan Harvey, Isiah Bell Phillips, Elisha Darrell and newcomer Johndell Cumberbatch.

The team has a full list of 13-14 girls competing in the meet. Middle-distance specialists Koa Goodchild, Selah Tuzo and sprinter Zakayza Parsons will lead this age group and their team-mates in this division are Sanaa Rae Morris, Keturah Bulford Trott, and newcomers Aaliyah Fadda and Miniya Wainwright. This group will also compete in the 4x100 and 4x400 metres relay.

In the 13-14 boys, the team will have Sancho Smith, last year’s MVP, and another newcomer, Chayse Tanner.

The 11-12 boys’ and girls’ division will see the likes of J’auza James, Ramiah Brangman and Myeisha Sharrieff competing. James will compete in the boys’ 100, high jump and long jump, while Brangman will run the 800 and 1,500. Sharrieff will perform the high jump.

In the 9-10 boys’ and girls’ divisions the team is made up of four talented youngsters, with J’Nas Richards competing in the girls 100, 200 metres and long jump. The 9-10 boys team consists of Jace Donawa, Daylen Scott and sprinting sensation Isael Smith.

Donawa will compete in the 400, 800 and long jump, while Scott and Smith will compete in the 100, 200, long jump and high jump. This will be Smith’s first appearance at the REB/ECI track meet.

In total, the team will compete in 70 individual events and three relay races.
