Tyrone Smith just failed to qualify for the long jump final at the athletics World Championships in London, and took a swipe at the athletes who finished ahead of him.

The Bermudian’s best leap was 7.88 metres, leaving him agonisingly three centimetres short of the top 12, who qualified for the final.

Smith took to Twitter to express his frustrations, writing: “This is gonna sound bitter and yes I’m a bit bitter, but if there were only clean athletes jumping today. I’d be in that final.”

Earlier, he tweeted: “3 measly centimetres kept me out of the final. In Beijing it was 3cm, in Moscow it was 1cm and last year in Rio ... 3cm.”
