Relay team break record in Barbados

The Bermuda School Sports Federation under-15 boys’ team of Chayse Tanner, Anaya West, Sancho Smith and Jahre Blakeney set a new record in the 1,600 metres sprint medley at the Barbados Relay Fair on the weekend.

The team clocked 3min 54.90sec to establish the new record, with Turner and West running the first two legs, each 200 metres, while Blakeney ran the third leg, 400 metres, and Smith, 800 metres, in the final leg. The under-15 relay team of Tanner, West, Smith and Asa Diop Williams broke the 4x100 record in a time of 44.84. Tanner, Smith and West then teamed up with Sekai Tatem to finish second in the 4x400 relay.

The middle school under-15 girls’ team of Destini Smith, Marli Butterfield, Massassie Smith and Jahstice Grant placed second in their 4x100 heat.

The middle school team, a combination of TN Tatem, Sandys and Dellwood, won the overall boys’ title.

Teams from CedarBridge Academy and Dellwood also competed with the Dellwood under-13 girls’ team of Keelia Dudley, Mitayah Richardson, Dhulche DeSilva and Chiaje Rudo placing first in their heat in the 4x200.

CedarBridge were represented by 15 athletes competing in the under-17 and under-20 boys and under-20 girls’ divisions.

The BSSF team returned to the island last night.
