Parents have until today and tomorrow to register their children in the Bermuda Pacers’ second Easter Sprint Challenge, which is scheduled for this Saturday at the National Sports Centre.

The deadline for entry forms is today while the deadline for online registration is tomorrow at www.trackie.com At last count there were some 90 youngsters signed up, more than the 80 who participated in the first races in 2016.

The event was not held last year, but organisers are hoping it can grow to become as popular as the Telford Electric Miles, which is also organised by the Pacers.

“We’re hoping that we can get over 100 kids, and will be looking to see if we can get a sponsor next year,” said Jerome Richards, race director along with Sonina Lottimore. “Hopefully we can grow this event like the Telford Miles which also started off small.” Races will start at noon with 25-metre races for three-year-old boys and girls. There will be races in age groups up to under-20 male and female, with the five and six-year-olds running 50 metres, the five and six-year-olds running 75 metres and those seven and eight running 100 metres.

Racing will finish with the 4x100 metre relays for the 9 and 10, 11 and 12 and under-17 and under-20 age groups.

Organisers are also planning relays for the younger age groups if there are sufficient numbers.

Part of the registration fee will be donated to a youth charity, with the winners of each race pulling a charity name in a draw. The charity drawn the most will be the recipient of the donation.

Race numbers can be collected from 9am to noon on Saturday at the National Sports Centre. Completed forms must be returned to the Sportseller by 4.50pm today. There will be no registration on the day of the event.
