Bermuda Pacers will make their 37th appearance at the Russell E Blunt East Coast Invitational Track Meet in Durham, North Carolina, this weekend.

The team of 26 athletes, who left the island yesterday, will include nine who are making their first appearance at the East Coast meet. They will compete in 67 individual events and two relays.

Pacers’ team will be led by distance runners Johndell Cumberbatch, Malik Joell and Sajan Harvey, who will compete in the 17-18 boys 800, 1,500 and 3,000 metres races, respectively.

Mikai Dill, competing in the same age group and making his first appearance at the meet, will compete in the 100 and long jump.

In the 15-16 boys’ division, Carifta Games athletes Ryan Outerbridge and Clevonte Lodge-Bean will be in action. Outerbridge will perform the 1,500 and 3,000, while Lodge-Bean will compete in the 100, 200 and 400.

In the 13-14 boys’ division Pacers will be represented by Sancho Smith, Chayse Tanner, Kahzi Sealey and Javed Sutton-Simons. They will represent the club in the 100, 200, 400, 800, 1,500 and 3,000, as well as the high jump, long jump, shot putt, javelin and discus.

That same team competed in the CUT Games at the National Stadium last week, with Smith and Tanner named as the outstanding athletes in their age group. In the 11-12 boys’ age group, Pacers will have Isael Smith and Jaelyn Grant, with Smith making his second appearance at the meet in the 100 and 200 and high jump. Grant, who is also making his debut, will run in 400, 800 and 1,500. Both athletes also represented Bermuda in the CUT Games.

Daylen Scott and Krus Iris will compete in the nine and ten-year-old boys’ division and will both take part in the 100, 200 and long jump. They, too, just competed in the CUT Games, helping Bermuda win the overall title.

The Pacers will also be sending some outstanding young female athletes to North Carolina, including Makayla Outerbridge, Miniya Wainwright, Noaah Powell and Keturah Bulford Trott.

Outerbridge and Wainwright will compete in long jump, triple jump and high jump, while Powell and Bulford-Trott will perform the 100 and 200.

In the 13-14 girls’ division, the club will have Sanaa Rae Morris and Jezhari Talbot.

Morris will compete in the 200 and 400 while Talbot is set for the 400 and 800.

In the 11 and 12 girls’ division, Chiaje Rudo will make her debut at the meet, running in the 100 and 200.

The 9 and 10 girls’ team is made up of five runners in Arima Turner, Karis Brooks, Ellise Dickinson, Jaeda Grant and LeShee Jones.

Turner, Brooks and Jones will compete in the 100, 200 and long jump, while Grant and Dickinson will run the 400, 800 and 1,500. They will also make up the 4x100 relay team.

Pacers athlete Clevonte Lodge-Bean will remain in the United States to compete in the USATF Hershey National Junior Olympic Championship at the North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro from July 23 to 29. Lodge-Bean qualified for the 400 final after finishing second in the regional finals in June at the same venue.
