Medal haul: The Bermuda Pacers Track Club

The Bermuda Pacers Track Club made their presence felt competing at the Flying Angels International Age-Class Track and Field Championship in Toronto, Canada.

The 31-member team earned 18 medals, including three gold, nine silver and six bronze, and also achieved a number of personal best performances at the two-day meet held at the York University Track and Field Centre.

“It was a great experience,” Cal Simons, the head coach, said. “It was a developmental meet for most of the kids, but it was above my expectations.

“I didn’t expect the kids to do as well as they did.”

Daylen Scott (11-12 boys long jump), Denver Tucker (13-14 boys high jump) and Legend Robinson (8 and under boys 400 metres) all secured gold medals.

Tucker (13-14 boys long jump) and Legend Robinson (8 and under boys 400 and 800 metres) were also among those earning silver medals which also included Ellise Dickinson (11-12 girls high jump and 400 metres), Nevaeh Barclay (11-12 girls long jump), J’auza James (13-14 boys high jump), Raina Robinson (8 and under girls 400 and 800 metres) and the 9-10 girls 4X100 metre relay team.

James (13-14 boys long jump and 1,500 metres) was also among those earning bronze medals along with Kruz Iris (9-10 boys 100 and 200 metres), Miyare Trott (9-10 girls high jump) and Century Robinson (11-12 girls high jump).

The Pacers team was comprised of 20 girls and 11 boys between the ages of 8 and 15, with 19 of the athlete representing the club overseas for the first time.

“The kids enjoyed the experience and that is what it was all about,” Simons added.

“It was a great experience for them and for us it did achieve what we wanted which was to get them all exposed to an international event.”
