Paulette forecast to become hurricane

Tropical Storm Paulette is forecast to develop into a hurricane by the time it reaches Bermuda early next week.The storm’s winds are expected to strengthen to 75mph by Monday morning, making it a Category 1 hurricane, as it approaches the island from the southeast.At 6am today, the Bermuda Weather Service forecast it would reach Bermuda by the early hours of Tuesday, by which time its winds will be up to 85mph.The storm was 1,250 miles east-southeast of Bermuda this morning, moving west-northwest at 10mph, with sustained winds of 58mph and gusts reaching 69mph.Its closest point in the next three days is expected to be 714 miles to the southeast on Sunday at 6am, and it is forecast to continue in a direction towards the island after that.The Bermuda Weather Service has said higher seas are expected this weekend as a result of the storm, and a small craft warning is in place.Meteorologists are also monitoring Tropical Storm Rene, which was yesterday still 2,226 miles east-southeast of Bermuda and moving west-northwest at 13mph.Rene is expected to pick up strength in the coming days, potentially reaching hurricane strength this weekend before weakening again.
