Over the summer holidays Young Observer will be featuring highlights of the school year in some of our middle and senior schools in our “Year in Review” series.

This year Somersfield Academy has been celebrating their 25th anniversary.

Montessori Education Week

As an extension to Montessori Education Week, the Cardinal class with Mrs Hammer-Furbert and Ms Tracy Houghton learnt about six profoundly inspiring peacemakers and Nobel Peace Prize winners.

Walk Our Journey from Tivoli to Somersfield Academy

The public was invited to take part in the fundraising 5.39-mile walk or run beginning at the site of the school’s first home, Tivoli Field, Warwick, on Sunday, December 4.

Children’s House marks Bermuda Day Parade

The Children’s House at Somersfield Academy celebrates Bermuda Day while commemorating their 25th anniversary.

Starting with a parade, the children dressed in costumes based on the theme of Sports, while pulling along decorated floats and moving to the music of their school’s steel pan band.

Following this, they put on their racing bibs and took turns running a mini marathon mapped out to resemble the St George to Hamilton route on the field!

Personal projects for Somersfield students

Students at Somersfield Academy had the opportunity to exhibit “personal projects” they worked on over a six-month period as part of their International Baccalaureate with subjects ranging from social justice to sustainability.

Somersfield students emulate their heroes

Somersfield Academy students transformed themselves into notable personalities through their annual P6 Wax Museum Experience.

Silver Stars 25th Anniversary Banquet

Somersfield Academy has developed from a handful of inspired families to a large community of inspired learners. Over 300 friends and family of Somersfield Academy joined to celebrate their 25th Anniversary at Southampton Princess.

Discovering “what matters”

The environment, social change and economic challenge were among the issues tackled by Somersfield Academy students as part of the school’s annual What Matters Conference. Each student was tasked with coming up with a well-researched project about a topic that means much to them and which takes them out of the classroom and into the community.

Basketball Team

We congratulate the players and coaches Devin McCallum and Jason Hammer of the Somersfield Basketball Team on a well fought season of sportsmanship.

The team represented the school exceptionally well in the final interchanging battle for the lead.

Schools’ VEX IQ team

Somersfield students participated in the second annual Bermuda VEX IQ tournament, hosted by Warwick Academy this year.

The Grand Champions were the team of Ethan, Charlie, and Sam.

The Robotics Champions (pure skills challenge) were Neil, Hudson, and Emily.

The Judges Award with to Odin, Cameron, and Liam. Other schools competing were the Bermy Bots (West Pembroke, coached by Kairo and Enoch from Somersfield), Somerset Primary, and Warwick Academy.

The tournament’s lead organiser was Adam Pimentel (graduate of Somersfield Academy’s robotic program).
